UNIVERSITY HILLS ASSOCIATION OF HOMEOWNERS
MINUTES
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2001
The meeting was
called to order by president, Arnold Martin at the Las Colinas Country Club at
7:42 A. M. Those present were John
Taylor, Don McGee, James Spriggs, Martin Kahn, Charles Schmidt, Don Jensen,
Esther Nachimson, Jim Wilson and TLCA representative, Scott Wilson. Not present were Frank Murphy and Nell Anne
Hunt.
Also present were
Mary Oberlin, Lynda Korkmas, Katherine Beggs, block captain chiefs and Bob
Kitzman, a block captain.
The minutes of the
last meeting were posted on our web-site, www.universityhills.net. A copy was
unavailable for the meeting on this date.
Treasurer Don Jensen
filed a financial report with the secretary. Total assets of UHAOH are
$3,727.42. We have, to date, 170 dues
paying families.
John Taylor, Director
of Communications, reported that things were going well and that the block
captains were expected to be finished with their assigned contacts by the end
of this week. He emphasized that the
block-captains main responsibility was to pass out the newsletter and other
pertinent information, not to collect dues.
There was a question about why we were collecting dues so early. Mary
Oberlin pointed out, all organizations with large memberships start several
months early to send out dues notices.
Jim Wells, web-site
director, stated he will be glad to help anyone with problems we are having
accessing our UH web-site.
The block captains
are distributing the newsletter. The
amount of postage saved is considerable.
Charles Schmidt, who
oversees city public works in the UH area, reported that the negotiations for
the Burlington Northern land necessary for the grade crossing project to
proceed is 99.9% finalized.
Scott Wilson reported the TLCA is in the process
of installing an aerator/fountain in Pea Patch Lake at the corner of Northgate
and Rochelle and has completed the planting of lovely crepe myrtles in front of the retaining wall in the same
location. He wanted to know from pet
owners where they need more pick-up stations for pet waste.
New lighting is being
completed in Old Rochelle Park.
There is a problem
with oak wilt, a devastating disease for our live oaks. Two cases have been reported in UH on Cabeza
de Vaca. We will invite the City of
Irving arborist, Terry Capehart, to
submit an article concerning this problem for the next newsletter.
Don McGee reported
for the nominating committee. As all
the officers on the present board were elected for two years, the committee is
entertaining nominations for strong committee heads, perhaps in a VP position,
to coordinate the special activities for UH.
The UHAOH will hold
its annual meeting at the Las Colinas Country Club on Tuesday, November 13,
2001, at 7:00 P.M. Plans for the
Christmas decorating contest will be discussed at the meeting as it may be too
late for the newsletter.
The proposal for
obtaining playground equipment for our small children is still in the
discussion phase. A suitable location
is the major factor.
The next board
meeting will be Tuesday, November 6, 2001.
The meeting was
adjourned at 9:14
Respectfully
submitted,
Esther Nachimson,
Secretary
