2008 UNIVERSITY HILLS SPRING FLING

Saturday, May 10, 5 to 8 pm, is the date set for Spring Fling, the annual University Hills celebration. For those who have not participated before, there is typically a live band, food and drink, and organized play for the children. It is a good time to meet your neighbors and enjoy the festivities. Wingren Park is the usual location. Volunteers are sought for this event. If interested, contact Fred Odell, event co-chair, at 972 650 8035.

There will be opportunities to enroll in three activities important to the well-being of our neighborhood association. Firstly homeowners will be able to review the Green Neighbor Checklist to see if they might qualify as Green Neighbors, thereby helping to preserve our environment. In addition, the association project to assist students at the Albert E. Farine Elementary School is in need of mentors. This is a collaborative effort amongst the faculty and administration at Farine, UHAOH, and three other homeowner associations. A list of assignments will be available so that one may select an assignment or activity that best suits your particular skills, timing,  and temperament. Lastly, our association is always in need of helping hands. A sign-up  sheet will be available for interested parties to volunteer at the various events held throughout the year.

UNWARRANTED TRUCK TRAFFIC

Several residents recently noted an increased amount of heavy truck (18-wheeler) traffic on our collector streets, Rochelle and Northgate. This
traffic might be "cut-throughs" on the way to/from the depot at Carl Road. Nonetheless these complaints were brought immediately to the attention of
responsible officials. Already IPD have increased their surveillance, although this includes all types of traffic law infractions. In addition, a
sub-committee has been formed with purpose to investigate possible remedies for the current situation as well as in the future when the construction
projects for the DART Orange Line,  new developments in the Las Colinas Urban Center, enlargements to Routes 114 and 183, etc., are underway.

UNIVERSITY HILLS COLOR BROCHURE

Anna and Wolfgang Walther are developing a brochure for our University Hills neighborhood to publicize its many advantages and beautiful features. The
proto-type has an appealing lay-out, vivid colors, and fine photos. They are planning to make it even better. Anyone with photos of the
neighborhood in a previous era, from a special vantage-point, or with residents engaged in various activities are kindly requested to contact our
Anna or Wolfgang. The UH directory has their contact information.
