UNIVERSITY HILLS ASSOCIATION OF HOMEOWNERS

Monthly Board Meeting

September 2, 2003

President Arnold Martin called the meeting to order at 7:44A.M.

Board members present were: Arnold Martin, Esther Nachimson, Mary Oberlin, Nelle Ann Hunt, Robin Filbeck, Jim Wells, Martin Kahn and Chris Wallace.

Board Members not present were: Don Jensen, John Taylor, Don McGee, Charles Schmidt, Scott Wilson, James Spriggs, Molly Kahn, Jim Underwood, Linda Korkmas, Katherine Woodruff-Beggs, paul Oldham.

The minutes were presented and approved.

In the absence of treasurer, Don Jensen, Arnold Martin presented a verbal update of our bank account.   There was a beginning balance in August of $3780.31; an expenditure of $1,607.11 for Christmas lights plus a deposit of $250 for memberships, left a balance of $1,857.11.  UHAOH is expecting a reembursement from the city for decorating purposes.

Martin gave the Public Works report for Charles Schmidt.  Northgate has been milled all the way to Story Road.  Resurfacing will begin soon.  The underpass is still being completed ahead of schedule and is expected to be ready sometime in the late spring.  They are planning a showplace entrance into University Hills.  It seems that they are to save the oak trees at Rochelle, past Hwy. 114.  The city is/has eliminated the position of the arborist, but Dr. George Susat has stepped up to the plate and volunteered to assume the position, pro bono.

We are sorry to announce the resigination of Holly Smith as neighborhood co-ordinator.  They are planning to fill this position.  Susan Rose is wearing 2 hats and has taken over Holly’s position.

Jim Wells was cited for his work on our data base and information system.  He and John Taylor have been working on a directory for University Hills.  Questionairs have been sent out and some returned.  A discussion followed that addressed the problems of whose names should be included and whose should be excluded from the directory.  We were counciled by board member Martin Kahn who advised us that lack of response does not imply permission to place names in the directory.  Chris Wallace suggested that we do a mail merge selection and send a letter to those we have not heard from.  Only persons who have replied positively will be in the directory.

Martin Kahn made a motion to put a slip in the mailing to remind them that our $50 dues for 2004 is due and payable.  After discussion, he withdrew the motion.

Chris Wallace encouraged all University Hills residents to mail in the proxys sent to every resident and property owner in Las Colinas. They are asking for changes in the by-laws and architectural control rules.  The meeting will be October 6 at 4 P.M. in the Millinium Center.  Major changes include a unified marketing entity just for Las Colinas.  The Visitors Convention and Visitors Bureau of the City of Irving only focuses on convention.

The meeting adjourned at 9:15.

The next meeting will be October 7, 2003 at the Las Colinas Country Club grill.

Respectfully submitted,

Esther Nachimson
