UNIVERSITY HILLS ASSOCIATION OF HOMEOWNERS

BOARD MEETING

October 1, 2002

President Arnold Martin called the meeting to order at 7:46 A.M.  Board members present were: Arnold Martin, Esther Nachimson, Charles Schmidt, John Taylor, Don McGee.  Also, present were: Mary Oberlin, Nell Anne Hunt and Robin Filbeck.

The minutes of the August meeting were passed out.  There was no treasurer’s report.  There was not a quorum and no motions were made or passed.

Martin announced a neighborhood watch meeting, with the police department, for training tonight at 6:30 P.M. conducted by Sgts. Granberry and Jones.  John will call Jim Underwood to notify him.

The members of the board discussed confusion about the fiscal year and the payment of the yearly dues. The fiscal year is from January 1 to December 31 and $50 dues are payable and not probated at any time.

Don McGee and his nominating committee recommended the present leadership be continued for another year.  Frank Murphy, president elect, had asked for a leave of absence from the board because of business reasons.  Renominated are Don Jensen, Treasurer; Esther Nachimson, secretary; Charles Schmidt, community liason; John Taylor as Director of Communication and Ted Olsen.

Permanent  board positions are recommended: Kay Glatter, historian; Nell Anne Hunt; Robin Filbeck, block chief and 3 block captains; Jim Underwood, neighborhood watch and 3 watch captains.

The cost of the UHAOH publishing a newsletter is prohibitive until our homeowner membership increases. In the future, The Las Colinas Chronicle, a community publication, will be the conduit for news about University Hills.  They have graciously dedicated space for our newsletter.  John Taylor is looking for subjects of interest for the Chronicle.  His E-mail address is taylorj@universityhills.net. Anyone can contribute.  The deadline for an artilce is the 10th of the month.

John stated that the block captain lists need to be updated.  We need to tweek our neighborhood census and get as many e-mail addresses as possible as this is our fastest and cheapest way to communicate with our residents.  We are trying to get our directory published and these efforts are necessary ASAP.

Plans for the fall fest have not been finalized.  Martin and Mollie Kahn are working on them.

Christmas decorations for Pea Patch Lake and the neighborhoods were discussed.   It was suggested that we must start in February to plan decorations, find a sponsor and get the cost of the project in the budget.  One problem, experienced in the past, is the theft of the electrical cords.  There is hope that each block/neighborhood will try to decorate their homes as a group. There could be an acknowledgement/prize for the best home decoration and the best neighborhood decoration.  Judges are to be announced.

Don McGee has planned the UHAHO annual meeting for either November 19th or the 21st, at 7:00, in the Las Colinas Country Club ballroom.  All UHAHO residents are encouraged to come to meet the officers, find out our plans for the next year and to become active in our association.

The next board meeting will be Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at The Las Colinas Country Club at 7:30 A.M.

Respectfully submitted,

Esther Nachimson, Secretary.
