UNIVERSITY HILLS ASSOCIATION OF HOMEOWNERS

MONTHLY BOARD MINUTES

NOVEMBER 1, 2005

President Arnold Martin called the meeting to order at 7:38 A.M.

Board members present were:  Arnold Martin, Esther Nachimson, Charles Schmidt, Jim Wells, Don McGee, and Nell Ann Hunt.  Rick Bidne of TLCA and Diane Everett, a new deputy chief, were also present.  Board members not present were: Don Jensen, Martin Kahn, Molly Kahn, Jim Underwood, Robin Filbeck, Linda Korkmas, Katherine Woodruff-Beggs and Craig Bowman

The board was happy to recognize a new deputy chief for Section B, Diane Everett, who will bring a whole lot of energy and enthusiasm to her job. Block captains are the backbone of this organization.

The board minutes were passed out and read by each member.

Arnold Martin gave the treasurer’s report for Don Jensen.  There are 299 paid members to the homeowners association.  409 out of 481 households returned their household information to be used for a new, updated directory.  There is a balance total of $15, 233 in the bank.   Don McGee made the motion to accept the reports.  Nell Ann seconded the motion.  The motion passed.

Monday, November 28th at 6:00 has been selected as the time and date for the lighting and festivities for Deck the Hills.  If the weather is bad, we will go forward with the plans for the next night, Tuesday the 29th.  Scott Glover, our at large board member will, again, be spearheading the yearly event.   There will be hot chocolate, hot apple cider and cookies provided by a committee headed by Alice Martin.  Two babies have been lined up to play the baby, Jesus.  Nell Anne has procured the animals for the manger display.  Anyone interested in helping with this event should contact Scott or Arnold.  Help is always needed.  Martin will again be Santa Claus.

Don McGee stated the monies for the University Hills sign on Rochelle have been approved and the sign has been ordered.  The complete display will be phased in.  Irrigation and planting will occur sometime next year.  There is not enough money budgeted for this year.  It will be installed before the first of the year to be eligible for reimbursement from the city.

Sadly, Paul Oldham has resigned from the board of directors.  Paul sold his business and has moved from University Hills.  We appreciate the time and expertise he brought to UHAOH.

Jim Wells stated the new directory will not be ready for publication by the annual meeting.  We are hoping to get more participation before going to press.

Don McGee suggested we should include a page (directory type) that would have the names of businesses, repairpersons and babysitters who are available.

Charles Schmidt announced that door hangers for our recycling  effort had been given out and large signs will go up on the Wednesday before blue bag days on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month.   They will be placed at the openings into University Hills.

Scott Wilson announced the entrance feature at Rochelle and Northgate is out for bids.  It will be in before years end.   He requested the the candy canes have not been picked up in a timely manner in the past.  After a brief discussion, the board decided to concentrate the candy canes around the ponds and not place them in front of homes.   The committee will install the canes on Saturday, November 19th.  It was suggested to treat the area for fire ants as they have been a problem in the past.

Arnold Martin said that he has been attending a new organization for the presidents of homeowners association in TLCA.  University Hills is the oldest association.  Quail Run, a condominium association has been applauded for maintaining its quality of life and participation of it’s homeowners.

The annual board meeting will be next Tuesday, November 8 at 7:00 P. M. at the Las Colinas Country Club in the La Vista Room.  All residents of University Hills are invited to attend.  The mayor, city council, police chief and fire marshall have been invited to attend.   Don McGee  said he was preparing the slate of officers for election at the meeting.  Esther Nachimson stated that was not necessary as an election was held at the meeting last year.

The  Yard of the Month award was given to the home of     at 3801 Cabeza de Vaca.  The board will gather there immediately following the meeting for a photo opportunity.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, December 6 at 7:30 A.M.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:08 A. M.

Respectfully submitted,

Esther Nachimson
