UNIVERSITY HILLS ASSOCIATION OF HOMEOWNERS
BOARD MEETING, NOVEMBER 7, 2002
President Arnold Martin called the meeting to order at 7:34.
Present were: Arnold Martin, Charles Schultz, Don Jensen, John Taylor, Don McGee, Esther Nachimson Martin Kahn, Nell Anne Hunt, Mary Oberlin and a guest Charles Cross.
Not present were Mollie Kahn, Robin Filbeck----------
The minutes to the last meeting were presented and approved as read.
The president commended Don Jensen for the outstanding job he has done as treasurer. The board unanimously agreed.
The treasurer’s report with the budget proposals was presented for the coming fiscal year beginning January 3, 2003. We have assets totaling $7,176.55. There are 231 households who were members in 2002, 53 more than we had in 2001. 43 households from 2001 have not paid their dues for 2002.
A motion was made by Mary Oberlin to approve a budget of $3,950 for the holiday season to purchase decorations and lighting displays for the area in back of Pea Patch Lake. Charles Schmidt seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Much of the cost is for the infrastructure needed to support the lights. Donated manpower is essential.
John Taylor is sending a letter this week to every home in UH to recruit members to help with all of the fun planned for our members and their children. Included in the mailing will be a form to be returned to enable us to update our files.
Everyone is encouraged to attend the UHAOH annual meeting, Thursday, November 14 at the Las Colinas Country Club ballroom. We need a representative from every home to help us prioritize our future endeavors.
Martin Kahn stated that he would review the bylaws to affirm the number of board members the UHAOH is allowed: a minimum or a maximum of 12. Don McGee suggested that a voting board of more than 12 members could become unwieldy, but that we could have as many committee members as we needed that would be a flexible method of handling various subjects.
Kaye Glatter feels that at the present she is unable to be the historian for UHAOH. Nell Anne Hunt suggested Sue Wilhelm for Social Affairs Chair.
Charles Schmidt reported that the shoofly (a detour track) is being constructed for the trains to go on while the underpass is being dug. Unfortunately, this does not mean that there will be no noise; however, Don Jensen, said that Irving has been approved to be a “quiet zone” and will be able to construct gates. He stated that this was possible because of our international recognition.
There was a public hearing at the Arts Center concerning the street reconstruction. O’Connor and Northgate will be left as-is. Most changes were postponed until they could get more input.
Our “tar paper wall” at Rochelle and Northgate is being closely monitored by the TLCA. The owners must keep any muddy runoff under control.
The next board meeting will be Tuesday, December 3, 7:30 A.M. at the Las Colinas Country Club grill. Everyone is invited to come.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:33 A.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Esther Nachimson, Secretary
