-UNIVERSITY HILLS ASSOCIATION OF HOMEOWNERS
MINUTES OF BOARD MEETING
May 2, 2006
The meeting was called to order by the president, Arnold Martin, at 11:36 A.M.
Board members present were: Arnold Martin, Kass Prince, Esther Nachimson, Charles Schmidt, Nell Anne Hunt, Jim Wells, Craig Boleman, Chandra Muenster, Don McGee and Martin Kahn.
Robin Beggs and Bob Kitzman were also present.
Board members not present were Don Jensen, Scott Glover and Linda Korkmas.
The minutes for the April meeting were passed out and read. They were unanimously approved after the correction of several misspelled names.
The treasurer’s report was passed out and read. It was noted that our present credit card accrued interest from the time a purchase was made. Don McGee suggested that our treasurer, Kass Prince should check with the Bank of the West and see if a better interest arrangement could be made. Martin and Kass were asked to investigate changing the cumulative limit on our credit card with limits as they see fit.
Martin motioned the on-going P&L entry, Mystery Arnold, in the treasurer’s report be charged off as an event cost. Don McGee seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Craig was asked to make one last mailing for UHAOH membership to see if we can increase the roster.
Chandra Muenster reported on the outcome of our Spring Fling. Registration was a challenge as usual. She estimated over 300 persons attended and the attendees signed the backs of the tickets for door prizes. She stated that the committee would sit down and critique this year’s very successful event to make even better adjustments for next year.
Charles, who monitors our recycling efforts, reported good success with the sign placement, alerting residents to not put out garbage and blue bags on Good Friday. The man responsible for putting out these signs likes his job and we thank him.
Charles and Pat Andres, our Yard of the Month committee, have chosen the home of Mark and Anna De Camp at 604 Guadalajara Circle as the YOM for May. We will meet there at 1:00 for our photo opportunity.
Charles stated some whose homes were seriously considered for YOM were not members of the UHAOH. Membership is mandatory to be selected a winner. Nell Anne Hunt suggested Pat and Charles list the positive and negative qualities they look for in choosing the homes for YOM and these be included in our next directory.
Bob Kitzman reported he has a meeting with Diane Everett, block captain (BC)for section B, to review what she envisions for the role of BC in her area. John De Marco has agreed to be deputy chief. Bob and John feel the BC program is in a state of repair and disrepair. The roles and expectations need to be defined as some BC’s signed up just to pursue one effort, i.e. the annual Great Flag Caper. Bob suggested perhaps more than one block captain in an area is needed.
Bob suggested that on the National Night Out in August would be a good time to “meet your block captain.” Maybe one person would be willing to monitor safety in their area and another BC could handle other things.
Some BC’s did not get their directories passed out. Kass reported that she and Craig did not receive one.
Arnold reminded the board we have, again, agreed to support Nell Anne’s flag planting all over Irving. Cass stated that she has sent Nell Ann a check for $1,500 as previously approved by the board. Nell Anne asks that used flags not be returned to her. Keep them for next year.
Charles reported there is legislation in committee to exempt TLCA from the new restrictions placed on most home owner associations. He said the Heinz Company who has just purchased the property in Las Colinas will not necessarily adhere to TLCA standards.
Kass reported that the Irving Arts Council will hold a meeting on May 8, at 7:00 P.M., about The Public Future of the Arts in Irving.
Craig asked that the Annual Meeting be verified to be the second Tuesday in November (November 14.)
Don McGee motioned that a committee be appointed to review our present bylaws for needed changes which would be presented to the membership in November. Kass seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Arnold stated that he would set up the meeting.
Martin Kahn mentioned that tickets for the Rangers game will be available for Baseball night, June 12th for $2.20. The tickets will be in the center field bleachers. If UH residents are interested they should contact Karen Hansen. (Do not call Martin
President Arnold Martin postponed the old business indefinitely and adjourned the meeting at 12:53. The next board meeting will be on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at the Las Colinas Country Club.
Respectfully submitted,
Esther Nachimson, Secretary.
