UNIVERSITY HILLS ASSOCIATION OF HOMEOWNERS

MONTHLY BOARD MEETING

TUESDAY, MARCH 4, 2003

President Arnold Martin called the meeting to order at 7:48.  Board members present were: Don Jensen, Esther Nachimson, Charles Schmidt, James Spriggs, Martin Kahn, Nell Anne Hunt, Robin Filbeck, Mary Oberlin and Paul Oldham.  Board members not present were: John Taylor, Don McGee, Jim Wells, Molly Kahn, Jim Underwood, Linda Korkmas, and Katherine Woodruff-Beggs.

Activity chairman Paul Oldham discussed his plans for our annual SPRING FLING scheduled for Saturday, April 26.  There will be a meeting for the committee on March 18 at Paul’s home.  Time for the event will be from 3:30 ‘til 7:30 P.M.

City of Irving liaison Chairman Charles Schmidt discussed issues concerning University Hills.  He stated that in order for the underpass construction to meet TLCA standards that TLCA will maintain the landscaping and beds and would erect a monument on the East Side of the tracks to announce our area.

There are some issues about the construction that need to be brought to the attention of DART.  They are only planning to build an overpass to hold one track bed.  Some members of the board believe this is very shortsighted.  A bed should be made for at least 2 tracks, if not more.  Actually, there is room for 5 tracks.

There will be a name change for Rochelle on the far side of Hwy. 114 to take place in the very near future.  The name after Hwy 114 will be Riverside Drive, to reflect its location.    Resurfacing on Northgate will begin shortly to resurface, west bound, from Santa Clara to O’Connor.

Non-Compliance letters have been send to 58% of TLCA homeowners.  The inspectors, who report the irregularities, are rotated every 18 months.  One of the goals for 2003 is to form a maintenance control committee and to establish a benchmark of standards. Attention needs to be paid to trash and refuse pick-up.  Many persons are placing their articles for trash collection on the curbs much too early, causing an unsightly appearance to our neighborhoods. Also, trash is being put out on regular days when there is no pick-up because of a holiday.  The board is trying to design signs that can be placed at the entrances to University Hills at the times when regular collection is interrupted.   Pick up for tree limbs and bushes is done one time a month in each section of the city.  Before having this work done, residents should call the city and schedule their work, thusly.

Nell Anne Hunt is having a kick-off party in May for the 4th of July.  10,000 flags were placed all over Irving last year.   There will be signs at the Spring Fling announcing the date and time.

UHAOH has received a grant from the city for $1,900 for our Christmas display and another grant is coming down the pike for beautification.  George Susat has been helping with this effort.

Our next board meeting will be on April 9, 2003 (on the 2nd Tuesday) at 7:30 A. M.

Respectfully submitted,                                                    Secretary
