UNIVERSITY HILLS ASSOCIATION OF HOMEOWNERS
MONTHLY BOARD MEETING
JULY 12, 2005
The Meeting was called to order by president Arnold Martin at 7:45 A.M.
Board members present were: Arnold Martin, Don Jensen, Esther Nachimson, Don McGee, Jim Wells, Martin Kahn, Nell Anne Hunt and Mary Oberlin. Others present were Robin Beggs.
The minutes of the last meeting were passed out to be read and were posted on the internet. They were approved without any changes.
Treasurer, Don Jensen gave each member a copy of the financial report for the month. UHAOH has 292 paid homeowners. We have total assets of $20,783.29.
Disappointment was expressed by the board that officials from Verizon and TLCA representatives absent from this board meeting. Earlier at the onset of the installation of the fiber optic cable, promises were made the digging of the cables would not be disruptive-we have been shortchanged on these promises. Power outages, long periods without telephone service, damaged sprinkler systems along with water and gas main breakage are some of the complaints some board members have experienced. These failures have not been addressed in a timely manner.
As most households have cell phones, being without telephone service would not normally be bad. All board members expressed the aggravating problem of not being able to get reliable signals for cell use at our property. Arnold has one spot in his wife’s rose garden he runs to when sending or receiving a cell call. Nell Anne promised to take a picture.
Our computer guru, Jim Wells is trying to gather all the information he needs to upgrade our new UHAOH directory. All names that appear in the publication will only be printed if each party has given permission. We are waiting for TLCA to mail letters to our homeowners. These will be forthcoming, shortly.
It was sadly announced that Mary Oberlin is moving next month to Chaparral Creek and will no longer be active in our block captain network. It will be necessary of re-vamp this vital network. Mary was asked if she could help seek out a candidate for her position. She agreed. The board expressed the need to try to have a meeting of the block captains within the next month.
Nell Anne reported that 300 volunteers turned out to plant flags for The Great Flag Caper of 2005. Again, it was a fantastic success. She expressed thanks to UHAOH board for our generous donation that enabled flags to be planted in neighborhoods that, otherwise, would have been unable to afford them. Nell Anne was pleased that Valley Ranch residents really got into the spirit of the occasion and turned out in record numbers. Cottonwood volunteers spent time before planting the flags to staple the flags to the little poles so they would last longer. Distributing the flags was exceptionally difficult this year because the ground was so dry and so hard.
Nell Anne felt the greatest asset to the City of Irving was gained in the feeling of community by bringing all neighborhoods together for the common cause. All agreed.
UHOH is eligible for grant money by the City of Irving for a new entry monument for UH. The design’ which is in the process of being changed by TLCA’ needs to be completed so we will not lose these monies. This monument is 3 years overdue.
The Yard of the Month is a 301 E. Rochelle, the home of Tony and Diane Porter. This property was chosen because the committee felt that the Porter’s had improved the landscape so much since they purchased their home a short time ago. There will be a photo opportunity, immediately following the board meeting.
The next board meeting will be August 2, 2005 at 7:30 A.M. at the Las Colinas Country Club Grill.
The meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Esther Nachimson, Secretary
