UNIVERSITY HILLS ASSOCIATION OF HOMEOWNERS
MONTHLY BOARD MEETING
FEBRUARY 6, 2007
The meeting was called to order by President Arnold Martin at 11:34 A.M. in the
President's Lounge at the
Las Colinas Country Club.Board members present were: Arnold Martin, Kass Prince,
Esther Nachimson, Don McGee, Jim Wells, Martin
Kahn, Barbara Hull and John De Marco. Board members not present were: Don
Jensen, Charles Schmidt, Nell
Anne Hunt and Bob Kitzman; also, present was Pat Andres.
The minutes of the last meeting were passed out and read. Don McGee motioned
that the minutes be accepted
as corrected. John De Marco seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Kass Prince passed out the extensive treasurer's report. Kass noted that
several persons have contributed above and beyond the set amount for UHAOH
dues. As UHAOH is a 501c6 entity, Kass motioned that we should acknowledge
these generous contributions in
writing. Don McGee seconded the motion. The motion passed. After the board
reviewed the report, Pat Andres lauded Kass for all of her hard work in
preparing the report that will make it possible for the board to project with
greater accuracy the needs of the association.
Our webmaster, Jim Wells stated that he did not purchase the color printer
approved by the board in January. He could not project the impact on our budget
for the cost of colored ink. The board agreed that color printing should be
left to the professionals. Jim reported Bob Kitzman had worked out an unusually
good agreement for services from Kinko's.
In Charles Schmidt's absence, Pat Andres reported the results of the Quarterly
Neighborhood Round Table at city hall. Jim Cline gave a reassuring message
about our water supply. As a city, we are still in the Phase 3+ of the
emergency water conservation plan. Arnold Martin and Charles Schmidt were
presented awards for perfect attendance at the round table meetings.
Pat continued to report on the Webber property development which has been
underway since October. The completion of the storm sewers and drainage from the
property is ongoing and, as Arnold stated, "they are doing their best job."
There was a discussion about the erection of a "farm type building" on Don
Tittles property in the Green Hills development at Rochelle and Wingren. It
seems no building permits were issued by the City of Irving. Don McGee motioned
to send a letter to the city council to express the dismay of our board and to
convey our feeling that our neighborhood is on a "slippery slope" by this
homeowner's disregard for his action. Pat Andres seconded the motion. The
motion passed.
Barbara Hull suggested that folders be made up to give to new residents when
they move in-as-a "Welcome Wagon" effort. This would help them understand what
UHAOH-has to offer so they could quickly become part of our community and
participate. We could include
coupons from local businesses, lists of vendors, etc. Barbara feels that when
the block captains call they should have 'something in hand' to give our new
neighbors.
Arnold said that the neighborhood watch needs to be cranked up. Pranks and the
defacing of property are on the increase. The police chief is ready to have
another block captain meeting to help boost our system. We were asked to watch
for homes that seem to be running businesses out of them. There is one home
that is reported to have six or seven cars parked out in front and up to 6 phone
lines.
Arnold was happy to report Linda Oliver has accepted the responsibility of
membership chairperson.
Arnold said that he had been approached by the principals of University Park to
"do something jointly with them" next holiday season.
Immediately following this meeting all were invited to go 3721 Guadalajara Court
for a photo op for the February Yard of the Month. This lovely residence is the
home of David and Shirley Griffin.
The next UHAOH board meeting will be Tuesday, March 6, 2007 in the President's
Lounge at the Las Colinas Country Club.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:02 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Esther Nachimson, Secretary
