UNIVERSITY HILLS ASSOCIATION OF HOMEOWNERS

MONTHLY BOARD MEETING

Tuesday, February 01, 2005

The meeting was called to order by the president, Arnold Martin at 7:30 A. M.  The secretary, Esther Nachimson, was late to the meeting.

Board members present were: Arnold Martin, Don Jensen, Esther Nachimson, Paul Oldham, Chandra Muenster, Mary Oberlin, Nell Ann Hunt, Charles Schmidt and Kass Prince.  Board members not present were: Don McGee, Jim Wells, Martin Kahn, Robin Filbeck, Craig Bolman and Christine Katib. Also present were Councilman Joe Philipp and Rick Bidne of TLCA.

Arnold suggested that the minutes of last months meeting, posted on the internet be accepted.

Treasurer Don Jensen passed out the monthly statement and reported total assets of $20,767.65.  We have 171 paid members to date.  2nd notices for dues will be sent out shortly with other association news of up and coming events.

Cass Prince reported that there were over 24 postage returns from the last mailing.  It is difficult to keep up with the persons moving in and out because of the privacy rules.

Mary Oberlin, block captain chief, reported that several areas need block captains.  These positions are of the utmost importance as they are a quick and efficient manner in which to notify our residents of subjects of concern to our whole neighborhood.  Anyone interested in becoming a block captain, are asked to call or contact Mary.

Nell Ann thanked Councilman Joe Philipp for the roundtable meeting at City Hall of the effort to keep Irving beautiful.  She noted that it was democracy in action.  Joe said that if citizens want to get the most bang for effort expended, we all need to sit down and write a note (or Email) to each of the city councilmen and outline their concerns.  He said that really gets the city fathers’ attention like nothing else.  .   March 23  will be the next meeting of this committee.

Upon investigating, it was discovered that the city has 24 budgeted slots for code enforcers and only nine are filled.  It turns out that these positions had not been posted on the internet

All work sessions for the city council are audio taped and video taped.  We can listen to these tapes on Wednesdays at 6:30 P.M. and on Thursdays at 5:30 P.M.

The city fathers have appointed a committee to look into the problem of code enforcement.  It was pointed out that committees give political cover to the politicians.  The names on this committee were familiar to many present.

Rick Bidne reported that a much needed increase in TLCA homeowners dues will be announced in May  Because of the business climate in Las Colinas being depressed, property values have decreased, necessitating the 2% increase.

Arnold lauded Cass Prince for her effort in completing the grant request to the city for the monument at the entrance of University Hills on north Rochelle.  This should begin sometime in the second quarter.

Charles announced the Yard Of the Month recipient to be a couple who is new to Irving and University Hills, Clint and Mary Ann DuCote.  They purchased the Braddy home at 3209 Hidalgo.  We are all invited for a photo op. Chandra reported that plans for the Spring Fling are going forward with plans for new amusements for the children and perhaps a surprise for the adults.   The particulars were sent to everyone in an e-mail late last month.   New ideas and volunteers are needed as usual.

Craig and Cass are planning for an adult only night out sometime in May or June.  They are considering a progressive dinner.

The next board meeting will be the first Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at 7:30 A.M. in the grill at Las Colinas County Club.  All residents are invited to audit the meetings.

Arnold adjourned the meeting at 8:59 A.M.

Respectfully submitted,

Esther Nachimson,

Secretary
