UNIVERSITY HILLS ASSOCIATION OF HOMEOWNERS

MONTHLY BOARD MEETING

December 3, 2002

The meeting was called to order at 7:45 by president, Arnold Martin.

Board members present were: Arnold Martin, Don Jensen, Esther Nachimson, Don McGee, Charles Schmidt, Nell Anne Hunt and Robin Filbeck.  Not present were John Taylor, Frank Murphy, James Spriggs, Martin Kahn, Molly Kahn, Jim Wilson and Chris Wallace from TLCA.

The minutes to the last meeting were presented and approved.

Don Jensen stated that there had been no changes in the bank balance since the last meeting but none of the expenses for the candy cane decorations and the lighting for the holiday exhibit at Pea Patch Lake had been turned in.  Don reported that only 64 families had paid their UHAOH dues for the fiscal year beginning January 1, 2003.  He is sending a reminder after the first of the year to members who have not paid their dues.

Nell Anne Hunt reported a large turnout of volunteers to help put up the candy canes in University Hills.  The mission was accomplished in a very efficient way and under 2.5 hours.  Don Jensen said that he has been straightening the canes to point in one direction when he goes for his daily jog.

The UHAOH board was able to demonstrate our board in action. It was deemed necessary to change the holiday lighting ceremony scheduled for this evening, December 3.  Within a few minutes, Nell Anne Hunt had notified all participants of the changes needed and all were agreeable to the new time, next Monday, December 9, at 6:00 P.M.  Robin Filbeck will notify the Block chiefs, who in turn will notify the block captains, who will notify the neighbors of the change.   It was agreed that if the weather is too bad for the lighting ceremony on the 9th that we will just turn on the lights and forgo any other events for this year.  Arnold Martin was going to Kinkos and have some signs made to post at stop signs and at Pea Patch Lake about the changes.  He will call John Taylor to have Jim Wells, our webmaster, send an e-mail notice to all of our members.  We thought that it was a good idea to leave the signs up until next Monday so, surely, everyone will know of the changes.

Public Works Chair, Charles Schmidt, reported that the shoofly (track detour) is under construction and that the water conduits have been completed across Northgate.  He stated that we will lose 3 of the large trees in the median on Northgate, but the city would replace them, with 3-inch saplings, at another location. He reported that the city is keeping a watch on the denuded property at Rochelle and Northgate (The Plastic Wall) and that they are not happy with the maintenance to date.  Don McGee suggested taking pictures of the degradation of the land and to send them to Jack Angel at the city to let him know that we are on top of the situation, too.  Charles, also, called our attention to the continuing upgrading of the UH sprinkler system.  He feels the city needs to pay more attention to sidewalks at our new grade crossing.  Compared to the grade crossing in surrounding cities, we are not accommodating our pedestrian traffic.

Charles presented The “HEAT” Program  (Help End Auto Theft) for our review. The board liked the program which is free to participants and it will be posted on the UH website.  Call 1-888-447-5933 for more information.

The president reviewed the results of the Goal Setting Exercise at the UHAOH annual meeting.  The results can be seen on the UH website.

Nell Anne Hunt is the chairman for the Holiday decoration contest.  The winners from last year’s contest will be the judges.

The next UHAOH Board meeting will be Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at 7:30 A.M.

The meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,
