UNIVERSITY HILLS ASSOCIATION OF HOMEOWNERS

MONTHLY BOARD MEETING

AUGUST 5, 2003

President Arnold Martin called the meeting to order at 7:43 A.M.

Board members present were Arnold Martin, John Taylor, Charles, Esther Nachimson, Jim Wells, Don McGee, Paul Oldham, Mary Oberlin, James Spriggs and Nell Anne Hunt.  Not present were Martin Kahn, Mollie Kahn, Don Jensen, Robin Filbeck and Jim Underwood.

Our treasurer, Don Jensen, was unable to be present to present a treasurer’s report.  A $2,000.00 check was written to pay for Christmas lights; however, John Taylor made an application to the City of Irving for a grant and we should be re-embursed for said amount.  James Spriggs suggested putting our reserve funds in a Fidelity Fund.  After a discussion, it was decided that our reserve monies needed to be more accessible.

The minutes of the last meeting were passed out and read. Charles motioned that the minutes be approved as presented.  John seconded the motion.  The motion passed.

Charles reported on the construction on Pea Patch Lake.  Thirty-five loads of silt have been removed by the City of Irving.  He stated one of the most serious problems with Pea Patch Lake is the amount of fertilizer and lawn waste that runs into it from surrounding properties.  Residents are being asked to clean up and to bag yard clippings and not let them get into the drains.

Charles stated the grade crossing at Northgate and Rochelle is still ahead of schedule and expected to be completed late in 2004.  Other items of interest were the opening of the new quarters for the IISD on Hwy 183 and the soon to be opened new Senior Center at 2nd Street and Jefferson in Old Irving.

Mary Oberlin will be hosting a party at her home this evening at 7:30 for our participation in National Night Out.  She reminded everyone to be sure and vote on the amendments to the Texas Constitution in September.  The issues being voted on are very important to all citizens.

John Taylor stressed the importance of our block captains to get the necessary training to participate in the program Block Watch.  In Mary’s group, all but 2 of her block captains have completed the training.  Any block, who’s captain has completed the training is eligible to be in the Block Watch.

Nell Anne reported that she is only $103 short on the cost of American flags for the 4th of July.   Space was made available for storage at the Service Center.  She reported that there are only 8 homes for sale in University Hills and no foreclosures.

John Taylor discussed our ongoing desire to publish a residential directory for University Hills.  Although we have most names in our data base, we are going to re-canvass by mail and send a letter to each residence with information that will be put in the directory.  Each resident should return this information with any changes needed and/or if they do not wish to be included in the directory.

Don McGee made a motion to do the mailing.  John seconded the motion.  The motion passed.

Mary suggested that invoices be sent for the collections of UHAOH dues for the 2004 fiscal year.

Arnold Martin announced that Heinz Simon was appointed to the committee for charter amendments for the City of Irving.

The next board meeting will be Tuesday, September 2 at 7:30 A.M. at the Las Colinas Country Club grill.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:09 A.M.

Respectfully submitted,

Esther Nachimson, Secretary
