UNIVERSITY HILLS ASSOCIATION OF HOMEOWNERS
MONTHLY BOARD MEETING
TUESDAY, APRIL 1, 2008
President Arnold Martin called the meeting to order at 11:33.
Board members present were: Arnold Martin, Esther Nachimson, Kass Prince,
John DeMarco, Jim Wells, Bob Kitzman, Barbara Hull, and Anna Walther.
Committee chairs present were: Fred O'Dell, Pat Andres, and Linda Oliver.
Kathrine Pennington represented The Las Colinas Association.
Esther Nachimson motioned to approve MARCH minutes posted on the UHAOH
website. The motion passed.
Treasurer, Kass Prince, presented attendees with the monthly financial
report and stated our finances are in fine shape. $1,300 has been collected
for advertisements in our soon-to be-printed directory.
Kass Prince motioned to approve the treasurer's report, as presented. The
motion passed.
Bob Kitzman asked for a discussion, tabled last month, referencing the
request of Jim Wells for electronic equipment that could be helpful to him.
Jim stated that he had analyzed our need for the equipment, a color laser
printer, laptop computer for UHAOH use only, and a projector. He concluded
that our resources could be better applied elsewhere by leaving the printing
to the professionals. The board agreed.
Jim has been working on a new brochure for University Hills for marketing
purposes to realtors, businesses, etc. The Walthers have access to
professional quality programs to generate brochures and catalogues. Anna
Walther volunteered her husband, who is very artistic, to help with this
project. Jim was delighted to accept their assistance.
The electronic copy of the directory is ready for final editing and should
be going to the printers any day. The committee chose a robin-egg blue for
the cover. All ads, to be confirmed by the end of today, will be placed in
the front of the publication. A hard copy will be furnished to the printer
to check for esthetics as there can be glitches when the data is transferred
electronically. This is caused by the differences in programs used at
origination vs. the printer.
Jim said the "Beacon" will be ready to go by the end of the day. He will be
happy to accept articles of interest to all of University Hills.
Linda Oliver, our energetic membership chair, reported she had received 3
more memberships.
John De Marco had noticed a discrepancy between the numbers of homes whose
numbers were painted by the Boy Scouts (477) and the lower number of
homeowners (450) Arnold Martin explained the difference (both numbers were
correct). There are 477 homes and lots (residences)and all house numbers
painted on the curbs. There are some homes in foreclosure, some homes are
vacant and homeowners are out of town, and some properties are owned by
TLCA. 450 homes are our target number to have on our roster.
Bob Kitzman wanted the board and all taxpayers to be aware of the tremendous
job being done by our city fathers on zoning improvements and code
enforcement which will certainly be crucial in maintaining proper
neighborhood esthetics in all of Irving. Areas being addressed are
carports, fences, auxiliary buildings and construction.
Bob reported on the TIF (Tax Increment Financing) funds and how they are
being utilized to improve areas in TLCA, particularly for development of
infrastructure of the Lakes of Las Colinas and the new sidewalks around Lake
Caroline.
Fred O'Dell, is our co-chair, along with Jennifer Davis, for THE SPRING
FLING, Saturday, May 10 from 5:00 PM til 8:00. He said it takes more than
one person to do this and he appreciates all the help Jennifer is giving
him. All 'lead-time' contracts are out including the music. Tents are
being provided for shade and the area is being treated by TLCA to insure the
absence of chiggers and other biting creatures.
VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED and should call 972-650-8035. Since postal rates are
going up, stamps will be purchased for announcements before May 1.
Arnold reported for Charles Schmidt who was unable to attend because of
illness of his wife, Patty. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.
Charles is our GOING GREEN chairman, along with TLCA, advocate that all
residents support this effort. It is the one thing we, as individuals, can
do to protect our environment at the grass roots. The Green Neighbor check
lists are being adopted by other villages in TLCA. There is a meeting
tonight at Irving City Hall. The Going Green Committee will have Karen
Harmon of Barton Estates, as chairperson of the program. Arnold, along with
Charles are on the Green committee.
John, suggested we should have a table or booth at the Spring Fling to
energize our homeowners. We are hoping to have representatives of the Blue
Bag program and to Keep Irving Beautiful.
Kathrine Pennington, the TLCA representative, invited all new Las Colinas
residents to a newcomers reception at The Hackberry Country Club on April 8
from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.
The Yard of the Month in April is the home of Harrell and Ireta Ellis at 321
Tampico Court. The board is invited to meet for a photo-op immediately
following this meeting.
The next meeting at the President's Lounge at the Las Colinas Country Club
will be on Tuesday, May 6, at 11:30 AM Those wishing to have lunch should
arrive at 11:00 AM.
The meeting was adjourned at 12:34 PM
Respectively submitted,
Esther Nachimson, Secretary.
