UNIVERSITY HILLS ASSOCIATION OF HOME OWNERS
MINUTES OFMONTHLY BOARD MEETINGS
APRIL 4, 2006
The meeting was called to order at 11:32 by Charles Schmidt, presiding officer in place of president Arnold Martin. The meeting was held at The Las Colinas Association board room.
Board members present were: Arnold Martin, Charles Schmidt, Esther Nachimson, Chandra Muenster, Nell Anne Hunt, Jim Wells, Don Jensen, Craig Boleman, Kass Prince & Don McGee. Jack Davis was present representing Jennifer Davis ( Spring Fling Co-Chair).
Bob Kitzman was present representing the Block Captains. Robin Beggs was present as an interested resident. Board Members not present were: Martin Kahn, Scott Glover, & Linda Korkmas.
The minutes were read and unanimously accepted with corrections. Several names were erroneously misspelled and will be corrected and reposted.
The treasurer’s report was presented. There are 248 paid members and 90 members from 2005 who have not remitted their dues for 2006. Total assets are $29,168.33. The plans for the Spring Fling on April 22, from 4:00 P.M. ‘til 7:00, are in full swing by our very able and experienced SF committee. They welcomed several new volunteers at their last meeting: however, another plea will go out over the net for more helpers. The committee, also, stated an urgent need for more sponsors to help pay for the various venues that are in the planning stage. Anyone can step up to the plate to contribute to this very worthy and fun event.
Jim Wells reported that seventy five percent (75%) of our UH residents had their information in the UH directory, including e-mail addresses.
Bob Kitzman was unanimously welcomed by the board as one of the new deputy chiefs in our block captain network, so ably headed by Linda Korkmas. John DeMarco was announced as another new deputy chief. Because of illness and families leaving the area, our block captain network is experiencing many changes; good people are stepping up to the plate to continue making our homeowners association the flagship model.
It’s never too early to start thinking about the Great Flag Caper. Nell Anne Hunt is the person responsible for originating the GFC concept and it has mushroomed from Irving, to Dallas County, to statewide and even nationwide. We are so proud of Nell Anne who has been a steadfast UHAOH board member from our inception. Our Assn. has always provided funds to help support this very exciting and patriotic endeavor.
This year, as in the past, the volunteers will plant 25,000 flags in all of Irving. The UHAOH board has approved $1,500.00 to help fund this project for areas of Irving who are unable to afford the flags.
The first GFC meeting will be a pot-luck supper at Nell Anne’s home, 3704 Hidalgo, on May 21st, at 6:00 P.M. The flags will be planted on July 1, 2 and 3rd. There will be another pot luck dinner on July 3, at 7:00, at Nell Anne’s home to celebrate the holiday along with another successful effort.
Don McGee was delighted to tell the board that the zoning at Rochelle and Northgate has been indefinitely postponed. The Burlington Northern seems to be opposed to the development because of environmental and safety concerns. Several of our board members observed the said property during the deluge of rains this past month. It was not a pretty picture.
Chandra Muenster, who is a concerned nearby property owner, stated that she did not see a problem getting 20% of the property owners to oppose the zoning change. This action would require a ¾ vote of the city council to approve the change.
Don Jensen suggested that City of Irving street maintenance should have their attention drawn to the terrible condition of the railroad crossing on Carl Road and Northgate. Some cars have been reported scraping the bottom when they hit the chug holes. Don stated that as an entrance to Las Colinas, this is deemed unacceptable. Craig Boleman said that several U H streets have serious repair needs and he had an occasion to report one area to the city. The repairs were made.
Charles
Schmidt reported the Weber property on Santa Clara is appreciating daily and
he is expecting the plat will be sold by the end of the year. TLCA would
love to
bring this property into the Association to ensure proper controls are
enacted; however, that decision will need to be made by the ultimate owner.
There was a discussion about the special election for the Texas Stadium redevelopment. Sandra Stewart from the Chamber of Commerce asked for support from out board for the city election on May 13. Don McGee motioned that we adopt a resolution to support the Texas Stadium redevelopment. Arnold Martin, seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Charles announced the Yard of the Month. The proud winners for the month of April are Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Ames of 3309 Hidalgo. As a reminder to all UH residents, one must be a paid member of the association to be eligible to win YOM.
The next board meeting will be at 11:30 A.M. May 2, at a place to be announced. The meeting was adjourned at 12:54 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Esther Nachimson, Secretary
