UNIVERSITY HILLS ASSOCIATION OF HOMEOWNERS

MONTHLY BOARD MEETING

APRIL 4, 2005

The meeting was called to order by president, Arnold Martin at 7:34 A.M.

Board members present were:  Arnold Martin, Esther Nachimson, Charles Schmidtt, Jim Wells, Paul Oldham, Martin Kahn, Nell Ann Hunt, Chandra Muenster, Mary Oberlin, Helen Chaplin and Robin Beggs.  Guest speaker was Tom Kormandy from Verizon.

Board members not present were: Don Jensen, Chris Khatib, Kass Prince, Don McGee and Molly Kahn,

Tom Kormandy gave the UHAOH board an update on the progress of the installation of the fiber optic lines in University Hills.  They are finished south of Northgate and are beginning installation north of Northgate.  To determine if you can be hooked up to the system phone 1-888-GET FI05 or go to www.verizonfios.com and enter your phone number.  A full explanation is to be posted on the UH website.

Nell Ann Hunt will begin the 2005 Great Flag Caper for July 4 with a covered dish supper at her home 3704 Hidalgo on Sunday, May 22 at 6:00 P.M.

Arnold reminded the board that early voting begins on April 20th for the city election in May.  One of the larger issues facing the voters is code enforcement.  Irving will eventually grow or become another town in decline depending on how aggressively this matter is handled.  He urged everyone to become knowledgeable about the candidates and what they stand for.

Some city council members are trying to put the issues off, hoping they will go away.  We were referred to the latest edition of the Irving Journal, now being published 2 times monthly.

Heavy duty traffic has been reported by our residents on Northgate.  This matter was referred to the Director of Public Works, James Cline who explained it as construction traffic.  We need to stay on top of this problem so Northgate Drive will not become a thoroughfare for traffic diverted from Hwy 114.  Mr. Cline does not live in Irving and seems not to be tuned in to our needs—his main focus is “to move traffic.” He would like to see NG straightened so traffic would not slow down.  Northgate Drive was removed from the master plan several years ago—some of the city administration would like to see this decision reversed.

The board is working on a new directory for UH households.  We are urging everyone to let your block captains know if there are changes in your phone numbers or e-mail addresses.

The association is able to save a lot of money if we are able to send out notices by e-mail.

Arnold gave a report from Kass Prince our neighborhood coordinator.  The city may be helping with the monument at the UH entrance on Rochelle.  Next Spring we are considering asking for money for perhaps a butterfly garden, suggested by Nell Ann Hunt, and helps to have curb numbers, uniformly on all homes in UH.

Don McGee sent in a report that the cul-de-sac on Wingren will be free of debris in time for our Spring Fling.

Jim Wells reported that a special dye has been added to the water on Pea Patch Lake to cut down on the bloom when the weather gets warmer.

Chandra reported she has issued invitations to our neighbors in University Park and Fox Glen to join us for our Spring Fling.  She is still accepting floor prizes.  She reported a budget of $2,600 but with underwriting by local businesses and individuals, our out of pocket expenses will only be $1,361.  All permits have been approved and the IPD will erect barriers for a fee of $75.00.

The board members will meet at the Yard of the Month 3301 Hidalgo, immediately following the meeting for a photo op.

The next meeting will be 7:30 A.M., Tuesday, May 3, 2005 in the grill at the Las Colinas Country Club.  All are welcome.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:59 A.M.
