UNIVERSITY HILLS ASSOCIATION OF HOMEOWNERS

BOARD MEETING MINUTES

President Arnold Martin called the meeting to order at 7:45.  Board members present were: Arnold Martin, Don Jensen, Esther Nachimson, James Spriggs, and Charles Schmidt and John Taylor.   Members not present were: Frank Murphy, Martin Kahn, and Don McGee.   It was suggested that we create an emeritus status for Zaid Katib who recently resigned because of poor health.  The status of Kathleen Olsen’s position on the board has not been finalized.

The minutes of the last meeting for April were unanimously accepted as submitted.

The treasurer’s report was filed with the secretary.  Don Jensen reported that we have 133 paid up members, a little over a fourth of our households or 27.8%. Total assets are $6,272.58.  The treasurer’s report was unanimously accepted as submitted.

John Taylor, who is publishing our neighborhood newspaper, needs article on the neighborhood grant for the street signs. The maps of University Hills are needed from Kathleen Olsen.  We need volunteers to manage the new web page, UniversityHills.net.

Work will begin on Old Rochelle Park immediately after the Byron Nelson.  The board members were encouraged to drive by Flagpole Hill and see the marvelous improvements, recently completed.  It has new poles, planters, and is lighted at night---very impressive.  Work will begin next Tuesday on Rosita and Northgate.

James reported that there were several fireplugs in the area not working and at least one had needed attention for several years.  The TLCA had been notified several years ago.  The “Children at Play” signs on Rochelle are in bad shape, but the city has a policy of not replacing them. We questioned if these signs should be removed, as no one pays an attention to them.

The overpass on Northgate has been re-scheduled for January 2002 because of the need to re-configure a portion of Rochelle.  It was noted that this work had been authorized in 1988.

Don and Pat McGee have agreed to head-up the social event, our Spring Fling.  It was a real success last year.  We will advertise it in our newsletter as soon as a date is chosen.

Several other suggestions were presented for neighborhood participation; A picnic to watch the fireworks on Flagpole Hill for the 4th of July; setting out American Flags in all of the yards in UH donated by Nell Anne Hunt—perhaps this would be a good project for the kids.  It was stated that the Rotary Club had a similar effort several years ago.

Arnold Martin reported that he had signed up UHAOH to participate in the “Neighborhood Night Out”—a program for neighborhoods to get together.  The organization has supplied the first ten hoods that signed up a “block party box.” He will appoint a committee to put this together at Flag Pole Hill on August 7, 2001.

Martin Kahn sent word the by-laws have been registered with the State of Texas.  A committee will be appointed to make revisions as needed.

The next meeting will be June 5, 2001.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:14 A. M.

Respectfully submitted,

Esther Nachimson, Secretary
